BEVERLY — A group of squatters was removed Thursday from the Feminique School of Beauty in Beverly ahead of sale of the property, according to Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th).

In an email to constituents, O'Shea said the combined commercial and residential building at 10225-27 S. Western Ave. was cleared out by the Chicago Police Department. The telephone number for the beauty school has been disconnected.

Police can now remove anyone who attempts to illegally return to the property. The locks were also changed Thursday, and the windows and doors were secured, O'Shea said.

"Today's action makes our community safer for families and all property owners," he said.

First National Assets bought the taxes on the property and is in the process of foreclosing on it, O'Shea said. He also said a buyer has been identified who intends to invest in the building and market it to a new commercial tenant.

This deal is expected to close in the coming months. An aldermanic staffer declined to identify the new owner.

Immediately north of the former beauty school, TAXtacian Inc., an income tax service provider, saw its building demolished in October. This structure has since been replaced by a parking lot.
