CHICAGO — Expanding discount grocery chain Aldi on Thursday will host a hiring event to fill positions in stores in the south suburbs.

"Aldi offers generous compensation and benefits to all employees, well above the industry standard," a spokeswoman said.

According to a news release, Aldi store associates earn $13 per hour, with annual raises to $15 per hour over 36 months, while shift managers earn around $17.50 per hour when performing manager duties.

Manager trainees earn $56,190 per year ($22.75 per hour averaging 45 hours per week), with an opportunity to earn $86,500 to $94,000 per year as a manager, the spokeswoman said.

On Thursday, Aldi will host a hiring event to fill store associate, hiring shift managers and manager trainee positions at stores in Alsip, Blue Island, Bridgeview, Calumet City, Calumet Park, Chicago Heights, Dixmoor, Glenwood, Hazel Crest, Lansing, Oak Forest and South Holland.

The event is set for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at an Aldi in Lansing at 3602 Ridge Rd.

Pay varies by location, and employees averaging more than 25 hours a week are eligible for health insurance benefits and dental coverage. All employees are invited to participate in the 401(k) program.

Applicants must be 18 or older to apply and a high school diploma or GED, and previous retail experience is preferred. Aspiring Aldi workers must be able to pass a drug screening and background check and have the ability to lift 45 pounds.
