'Empire' Actress To Host Basketball Game At High School Alma Mater, Simeon

CHICAGO — Actress Ta'Rhonda Jones is challenging her "Empire" castmates and other local celebrities to compete on the court.

Jones, a Chicago native and Simeon grad who plays Porscha Taylor on the hit Fox series, is hosting a basketball game that aims to raise awareness of Chicago's gun violence issues with the goal of making the city safer. 

The event starts at 1:30 Saturday at Simeon Career Academy, 8147 S. Vincennes Ave., and ends at 4 p.m. The game is free. Register through Eventbrite.

The Chicago artist has teamed up with the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, St. Sabina, Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and Pico Live Free Campaign.
