Wilteeah Jones, Malik Bingham Slain In Chatham

CHICAGO — A shooting in Grand Crossing killed Wilteeah Jones, who was pregnant, and Malik Bingham on Wednesday night, officials said.

At 8:15 p.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired found the victims in the 7600 block of South Champlain Avenue, police said.

The woman was found on the sidewalk and had been shot in her abdomen and the side of her body, police said.

Jones, 20, of the 8600 block of South Emerald Avenue, was pronounced dead at 9:29 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed she died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.

The man was found in the driver's seat of a parked car and had been shot in the left side of his neck. Bingham, of the 11800 block of South Maplewood, was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m., according to the Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed he died from a gunshot wound in his head in a homicide.

The two were taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said. A doctor at Stroger Hospital told police the woman was pregnant, though it was not known for how long she had been pregnant.

The man was a documented gang member, a police source said.

No one was in custody.
