Portage Park Car Dealership Broken Into, But Thieves Couldn't Find Keys

By Kelly Bauer | February 21, 2017 8:16am

PORTAGE PARK — A group of burglars got into a Portage Park dealership — but then couldn't find keys to the cars.

At 1:39 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called after a security company monitoring the dealership saw five masked men get into the store in the 5200 block of West Irving Park Road, police said.

The men broke a window on the service door and one man got in through the window and opened the door for the rest of the burglars, police said. The men weren't able to find keys for any cars, though, and they didn't take any cars.

The men, who were wearing masks, ran away before officers arrived, police said, and no one was in custody.

In December, a cluster of Northwest Side dealerships were hit by car thieves. At the time police blamed a group of six to eight teens for the crimes. One teen was arrested.
