NORWOOD PARK — A teenager tried to lure a student into his van while she was walking near Taft High School Thursday afternoon, police said.

Around 4 p.m. Thursday, the female student was walking home from school in the 6700 block of West Hurlbut Street when a gray minivan pulled up next to her, and the driver asked "Do you want a ride?" according to a police alert.

The girl ignored him, but he kept asking her to get in the van, at one point asking if she used Snapchat so they could "exchange snaps."

The girl ran away and told her mother, who called 911, police said.

Police described the suspect as a 17-or 18-year-old Hispanic teen with "dark eyes" and the sides of his head shaved, with black curly hair on top. He had an earring in his left ear and was wearing a blue hoodie.

The teen's gray minivan had a red football helmet sticker on the back, police said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8200.
