Willie Cooks, 23, Killed, 1 Man Wounded In Back Of The Yards

CHICAGO — Willie Cooks, 23, was killed and another man was wounded in a shooting in Back of the Yards on Saturday, officials said.

The incident occurred in the 5000 block of South Ashland Avenue at 2:55 a.m.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired and found a 23-year-old man dead in a building with a gunshot wound in his back, police said.

Cooks, of the 100 block of East 102nd Street, was pronounced dead at 3 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed he died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.

A 28-year-old man who was shot in his right leg was found a short distance away after he ran off from the shooting scene, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital.

The circumstances around the shooting are unknown, according to police, and no one was in custody.
