CHICAGO — A man died and two others were wounded in an early Saturday morning shooting in Back of the Yards.
The incident occurred in the 4500 block of South Wood Street about 4:25 a.m. Authorities found a man who was shot and "loaded into a vehicle by acquaintances."
After initially classifying the man dead on arrival, police later said he was taken by paramedics to the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
John Gonzalez, 36, of the 4400 block of South Wood Street, was pronounced dead at 4:43 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed he died from a gunshot wound in his face.
Two other men took themselves to Stroger Hospital where they are listed in good condition. A 32-year-old man was shot in both legs. A 26-year-old man was shot in his right hand.
All the people shot are documented gang members, police said.
