THE LOOP — Those grins on people's faces walking around Chicago Friday?

Could that be pure joy?

Despite it being winter, temperatures hit 67 degrees in Chicago Friday afternoon, making it the warmest Feb. 17 on record.

The old record was 60 degrees in 1880, according to the National Weather Service.

And — despite a gloomy, overcast winter earlier this season — it was bright and sunny Friday.

Which is more than can be said for normally sunny Los Angeles and San Diego. It was raining there Friday. The temperature at 2 p.m. Central Time in LA was 56 degrees. In San Diego it was 61 degrees.
