UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — Authorities are looking for a man who tried to carjack a woman near a busy Ukrainian Village intersection this week, according to a police alert.

Around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, a man walked up to the victim while she was in her car on the 2000 block of West Chicago Avenue, police said.

He "opened up the driver's side door of the victim's car and attempted to enter the vehicle by grabbing the victim by the chest, pushing her down in a forceful manner," police said.

The woman was able to fight the man off, and forced him out of her car, according to the alert.

The man —  described by the victim as black, 25 to 30 years old, with a "medium complexion and medium build" — was wearing dark white-washed jeans and a dark gray hooded sweatshirt.  He ran away, headed westbound on Chicago Avenue.

The busy block is home of a  Mariano's grocery store, McDonald's, Sunrise Cafe and and many small businesses.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Area Central Detective Division at (312) 747-8380. Reference report number, JA-154853.
