WEST RIDGE — VPT, the Far North Side burger and taqueria joint famous for its deep-fried burgers and decadent menu, is closed Thursday to take part in the "Day Without Immigrants" movement, the restaurant said on Facebook Wednesday night.

The restaurant and its owner Ivan Resendiz, who is from Mexico, shared the same message on social media announcing support for the national movement — which is meant to highlight the contributions immigrants make to daily life.

"In light of Thursday's immigration civil action, VPT's staff voted and agreed to stand in solidarity with other businesses, and VPT will be CLOSED on Thursday February 16th," the company wrote. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope you will continue to support us."

VPT isn't the only Far North Side eatery to stand in solidarity with immigrants.

Revival Social Club at 1133 W. Granville Ave. said it will also remain closed Thursday.

"In support of Day Without Immigrants, we will be closed tomorrow," the restaurant Tweeted out Thursday morning. "We appreciate diversity of all our employees and customers!"

In other parts of the city, chef and restaurateur Rick Bayless is set to close his eateries, too, including Frontera Grill, Topolobampo, Xoco and Fonda Frontera. His staff also voted in favor of support to immigrants.

In Lakeview, both Cesar's locations on Clark Street and North Broadway will also be closed as part of the movement.
