Shooting In South Shore Store Leaves 23-Year-Old James Johnson Dead

CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man is dead after he was shot in a South Shore store late Tuesday morning, police said.

The shooting happened in the 2000 block of East 71st Street at 11:56 a.m., police said.

The man has been identified as James Johnson, of the 6300 block of South Keating Avenue in Clearing, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Johnson walked into the store followed by another person who shot Johnson in his chest. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he died.

No one is in custody.
