Host Of Chicago Chefs, Restaurants Named James Beard Semifinalists

DOWNTOWN — The James Beard Foundation announced the semifinalists for its annual awards, and a number of Chicago's top chefs and restaurants are in the running for everything from Best New Restaurant to Outstanding Service.

Notably absent: Alinea, which was honored as Outstanding Restaurant in 2016.

Final nominees will be named March 15, and winners will be announced at a gala event set for May 1 at Chicago's Lyric Opera House.

Here are Chicago's semifinalists:

Best New Restaurant: Oriole, Roister and Smyth

Outstanding Baker: Greg Wade, Publican Quality Bread

Outstanding Bar Program: Lost Lake

Outstanding Chef: Tony Mantuano, Spiaggia; Carrie Nahabedian, Naha

Outstanding Pastry Chef: Aya Fukai, Maple & Ash; Meg Galus, Boka
