MOUNT GREENWOOD — Because we just can't get enough of them, here's a few more pics of the piglets born at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences in Mount Greenwood.

The 10 piglets were born Feb. 7 at the school at 3857 W. 111th St. And nearly 2,500 people tuned in to see the new arrivals via a live stream set up in the school's barn, said Samantha Kujawa, an animal science teacher at the school.

Now a week old, the piglets are much more active. The four males and six females frequently pester their mother — a roughly 5-year-old sow named Sugarbeet — for food, Kujawa said Monday.

The curious pigs are also getting into more trouble. Thus, the students will soon begin the process of "baby proofing"... or more accurately "piglet proofing" the barn, Kujawa said.

The students are keeping an extra eye on the baby pigs this year, after last year when a sow named Peppa Pig accidentally crushed one of her piglets, Kujawa said.

Ag School students welcome an expectant sow each year as part of its curriculum. The students observe her during her gestation period as well as during the birthing and weaning processes.

The school's live stream also included a poll asking visitors to vote on the names for the piglets. The top votes went to: Wilson, Garth, Osa, Peach, Daren, Waddles, Truffles and Pumba.
