LINCOLN PARK — Chicago runners, start your registrations.
Lincoln Park Zoo has opened online registration for its 39th annual United Run for the Zoo. Set for June 4 with a course that winds through the zoo grounds, it includes entrants for 5K ($34), 10K ($39) and a Safari Stampede obstacle course for kids ($20).
The chip-timed race is certified by USA Track & Field and typically attracts 6,000 participants, sometimes selling out before race day.
The zoo calls it "one of the oldest and most beloved short-distance races in Chicago."
With United Airlines as lead sponsor, the fundraiser helps allow the zoo to stay open and free 365 days a year.
The zoo is also looking for 270 volunteers to monitor the course and help run the event. Those interested should email volunteer@lpzoo.org.
