CHICAGO — The Indo-American Heritage Museum will celebrate Indian American creativity this month with a screening of "Unbroken Glass" and a conversation with Director Dinesh Sabu.

The 2016 documentary follows Sabu, an orphaned immigrant, uncovering his family history 20 years after the death of his parents, according to the movie's website.

"Uncovering a silenced family history of mental illness, [Sabu] confronts the legacy of having a schizophrenic mother who died by suicide, the reality of growing up an orphaned immigrant, and the trauma of these events," the website said.

From 3-5 p.m. Feb. 18, the screening will be held at the Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St. It will be followed by a question and answer session with Sabu and a reception, according to the Indo-American Heritage Museum.

The film travels through India and the United States, focusing on how Sabu's family dealt with mental illness at a time and in a culture where it "was often misunderstood, scorned and taboo," according to a press release for the film.

Sabu is a graduate of the University of Chicago and an independent filmmaker whose work includes shooting parts of Kartemquin's "American Arab" and "The Home Stretch," according to the release.

Kartemquin is a Chicago-based not-for-profit organization for documentary filmmakers seeking to "foster a more engaged and empowered society." It is responsible for films such as "No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson" and "Hoop Dreams," according to its website.

Tickets can be purchased here for $8 until Feb 13.
