These Pups, Cats Are Looking For Love And A Home For Valentine's Day

By Kelly Bauer | February 8, 2017 5:45am

CHICAGO — PAWS Chicago is hoping it can help its dogs and cats find love — and a permanent home — for Valentine's Day this year.

The Lincoln Park shelter will offer discounts for big dogs and bonded pets Saturday and Sunday at its Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center, 1997 N. Clybourn Ave., according to a PAWS Chicago news release.

Dogs who weigh 50 pounds or more, who PAWS said get "overlooked" in the city because of their size, can be adopted for just $50 over the weekend.

PAWS will offer a 50 percent discount for bonded animals — like cats Garfield and Alberto — who have spent their lives together or become best friends and need to go to the same home.

Here are some of the cats and dogs in need of a home:

Eugene

Eugene, a 1-year-old husky/lab mix, is "hilarious" and has tons of energy, PAWS said. He's looking for a home where he can show off the skills he's picked up in training, be active and live with people 15 or older.

Calle and Jasmine

Calle and Jasmine, who are 15, have been at PAWS Chicago for more than a year. They can be timid at first, PAWS said, but once they know you they come out of their shell and like playing with toys and sitting on laps. They are looking for a quiet home with "patient adults," PAWS said.

Leyla

Leyla can be shy around new people and places, but she comes out of her shell when she can "play and romp outside," PAWS said. She was kept inside an enclosed porch for years and needs a "patient and experienced owner," PAWS said. A big fan of squeaky toys, Leyla is a 3-year-old Labrador retriever.

Garfield and Alberto

Garfield and Alberto, who are FIV+, are looking for love in the same home this Valentine's day. They were recently given up by their owner after he or she could no longer care for them, PAWS said.

George and Brad

George and Brad, 4 years old, are best friends who are looking for a home together.

Regis

Regis is a Catahoula leopard dog/cattle dog mix who's 1 year old. She's hoping to find a home with kids 10 or older, PAWS said.

Drogo

Drogo, a shepherd mix, is just 10 months old. He's a fan of taking walks and chew toys. He's looking for an experienced owner who can continue his training, PAWS said.

Cranberry Crisp

Cranberry Crisp is a 3-year-old hound mix who's smart and willing to work — especially if he can "use his hound nose to sniff out hidden treats," PAWS said.

Braxton and Brian

Brian, 9, (right) is a Pomeranian mix who is best friends with 7-year-old Braxton. They've spent their entire lives together and are looking for a home where they can have "their next adventure together," PAWS said.
