EDGEWATER — Though silent and empty for years, the landmark Colvin House and Uptown Theater have recently come alive, serving as the stages for two artists' music videos.

Singer Regina Spektor's newly released video for her song "Black and White" features the performance of a classical ballerina moving throughout the long-shuttered Uptown Theater.

The theater's reign spanned from 1925 to 1981, though Spektor's video illuminates the theater to show off its former glory — something she described as "more majestic than Radio City Music Hall" and ultimately "one of the most magical music video experiences I've ever had," in an interview with Elle.

While searching for a low-budget and subtle venue to shoot the song, Spektor said she wanted a place with a historic and vintage feel.

A friend connected her to elegant the Uptown Theater.

"It's like a castle that fell asleep," she said.

To the north in Edgewater, local artist Eiren Caffall was able to quickly shoot a video for her song, "Useful to the Day" before it began its renovation into a creative co-working space.

The Colvin House, 5940 N. Sheridan Road, was built in 1909 and has become a Chicago landmark, despite its neglect over the years.

Two stories of decadent and detailed scenery serve as the backdrop to Caffall's song, including the home's signature chandelier.
