AVONDALE — Police are searching for a man accused of grabbing or trying to grab two children near Avondale-Logandale Elementary School early Wednesday.

The man approached a group of children around 7:50 a.m. — 10 minutes before school started — and tried to grab the arm of a 12-year-old girl while shouting profanities, police said. The girl ran away and alerted school staff.

Soon after, the man, still yelling, also grabbed an 11-year-old boy, police said. The boy also escaped.

The alleged offender appeared to be a Hispanic man in his 50s and wearing a black-hooded puffy jacket and black jeans, police said. He also had a physical impairment on his lip and right eye.

Avondale-Logandale, 3212 W. George St., sent letters home to parents to alert them of the situation, an official said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call detectives at 312-744-8261. Anonymous tips can be submitted at Tipsoft.com.
