SOUTH SHORE — Police are warning South Shore residents to beware of their surroundings and travel in groups, if possible, after a man attempted to sexually assault a woman near Jackson Park.

Around midnight Wednesday, a woman returning home from work was followed by a man between the ages of 20 and 25 after getting off a bus in the neighborhood, police said.

The man, who was also on the bus, followed her to the 2200 block of East 68th Street grabbing the woman from behind as she approached her building, police said.

The man, who stands about 5 foot 8 inches tall, attempted to remove the woman's clothing, but she was able to escape. The man also ran away from the scene, police said.

The man was described as a black man wearing a gray jacket with an orange zipper. He was wearing black pants and gym shoes, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident should call detectives at (312) 747-8380.
