ANDERSONVILLE — The pH Comedy Theater will celebrate women this month with a fundraiser benefiting female victims of assault and an extended run of its improv show "Women on Top."

At 7 p.m. Feb. 14, the theater at 1515 W. Berwyn Ave. will host its second annual One Billion Rising Valentine's Day Fundraiser, a variety show including a performance of "Women on Top" and hosted by Samantha Woodman, a pH company member, according to a press release.

“This is an important event for both the theater and the community and the point of One Billion Rising is to bring joy to these women affected by this horrible epidemic, I can think of nothing more joyous than an evening of laughter," Woodman said.

One Billion Rising is a national organization that raises money and awareness about violence toward women, the release said. It bills itself as the biggest mass action to end violence against women. The campaign was launched on Valentine's Day 2012, according to its website.

In addition to the performances, the theater will also host a raffle featuring locally made items from women around Chicago. Proceeds from ticket sales and the raffle will benefit a local women's shelter, the release said.

Beginning on Feb. 17, pH will begin its fourth run of "Women on Top," a show inspired by audience suggestions where storytelling, comedy and relationships take center stage.

In the show, the theater's female ensemble members "tell authentic stories and have real conversations" before improvising scenes depicting their own life experiences. Throughout the run, male performers and special guests will join, the release said.

The show will run at 9:30 p.m. Fridays until March 31. Tickets, which are $15 for adults and $10 for students, are available here.

The pH theater is the home of the non-profit comedy arts organization pH Productions, which has been creating original comedy since 2002, according to the release.
