SAUGANASH — All underground water systems have been fixed near the 5900 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue, where a broken water main left multiple blocks submerged in water Thursday, city officials said Friday.

Early Thursday morning, a 36-inch "high-pressure feeder main" burst, dumping torrents of water into the streets, according to Gary Litherland, a spokesman for the city's water management department said. Most of the water was drained by around 7:30 a.m., and the pipe was fully repaired by 11 a.m., he added.

Full water service was restored to all residents after a brief pause Thursday, Litherland said.

City engineers are "not sure exactly what happened" to cause the damage and flooding, but they'll be investigating the incident in the coming weeks, he said.
