PORTAGE PARK — A 63-year-old man has been charged with burglary for a Jan. 18 break-in at BRGRBelly, 5739 W. Irving Park Road, police said.

David Suane, who lives in the same block as the restaurant he broke into, was arrested Sunday, police said.

After BRGRBelly's security cameras captured the burglar smashing through the back window and breaking the register to nab $300 in cash, manager Tim O'Brien recognized the man as a neighbor, according to his brother Steve.

"When Tim saw the footage, he was like 'I know that guy, he's walking around the neighborhood all the time,'" said Steve O'Brien, who co-owns the restaurant with his wife, Nicole. "He went looking around, and realized the guy lives right next door."

Thanks to O'Brien's tip, officers arrested Suane in his home on Sunday, police and O'Brien said.

Suane was charged with two counts of burglary, police said. In addition to last Wednesday's break-in, he's charged with a Jan. 14 burglary in the 5600 block of West Irving Park Road.

Suane was released on electronic monitoring after a judge set his bail at $5,000, according to court records.

"I'm just glad we were able to get a guy off the street who was wreaking a lot of havoc in the neighborhood," Steve O'Brien said.

Police records show that Suane also was arrested and charged with retail theft in November 2015.
