CHICAGO — Metra was facing "extensive delays" along its Pacific Northwest line after a crash on Thursday morning, officials said.

A train going to Chicago hit a car near Gladstone Park, said a Metra spokesman. The crash happened in the 5700 block of North Nagle, police said. A Metra employee at the scene said at least one person was killed in the crash.

As of 7:45 a.m., trains going in and out were halted and the spokesman said there was no estimated time for when the trains would move again.

By 8:30 a.m., some inbound trains had begun retreating back to the suburbs.

Announcements on the train said there would be "extensive delays" and a track inspector wasn't expected to arrive for a half hour.

Chicago Fire was not immediately available for comment.
