Man Charged In South Chicago Shooting

CHICAGO — A South Chicago man has been charged with shooting a 27-year-old woman on Friday.

According to police, Robert Ashford, 36, shot the victim in her wrist, leg and foot about 9:15 p.m. Friday in the 2900 block of East 91st Street. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where her condition wasn't released, but she was listed as "stable."

While trying to flee, police said, Ashford was involved in a traffic crash in the 9000 block of South Jeffery Boulevard. He was arrested and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Ashford is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery by discharging a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

No additional details were immediately available Monday night.
