6 Attackers Rob Bucktown Man At Gunpoint, Police Say

By Alisa Hauser | January 23, 2017 5:12pm

BUCKTOWN — A group of six teens and young adults robbed a man at gunpoint on Sunday night in Bucktown, police said.

About 8 p.m. Sunday, a 46-year-old man was walking in the 2000 block of West Cortland Street when he was approached by six people estimated to be between the ages of 16 and 21, according to Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

One of them "produced a gun and demanded property," before taking the victim's possessions and running away with five others, Tannehill said.

The suspects were described as black teens or men ranging in height from 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10, and between 145 to 165 pounds, Tannehill said.

One suspect from the group was caught by police a mile west of the robbery, in the 1700 block of North Fairfield Avenue, but "subsequently released," Tannehill said.

Tannehill said the suspect was found 23 minutes after the robbery, based on the victim's descriptions of the men who'd robbed him. Tannehill said the suspect was shown to the victim.

Tannehill did not have more information on the released suspect or how he was found. The suspect was not armed, Tannehill said.

On Tuesday, Tannehill said that a 16-year-old teen suspect was arrested and charged with one felony count of armed robbery, after the teen fled police and jumped off the elevated Bloomingdale Trail in the 1800 block of North Fairfield Avenue.
