ANDERSONVILLE — A local publisher will host coloring sessions at venues across Andersonville next month to get parents and children excited about art and introduce its new book launching at the end of January.

Coloring Books For Kidz's "Winter Wonderland" edition, which will be available Jan. 28, includes artwork from three international artists rendered in black and white so kids can put their own artistic spin on the pictures, said Gwen Washington, founder of the soon-to-launch Coloring Books for Kidz publishing company.

The pop-up neighborhood events are "designed to get people involved" and "destress with your child" by "giving people the freedom of expression to color outside the lines, she said.

From 3-4:30 p.m. Feb. 18, the creators of Coloring Books for Kidz will host a "Mommy and Me: Coloring and Cocoa" event at Women and Children First bookstore, 5233 N. Clark St., featuring cookies, hot cocoa, a discussion about French Impressionism and coloring sheets that coincide with the discussion, according to a press release.

From 5:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 23, the creators of the book will host a second session at George's Ice Cream and Sweets, 5306 N. Clark St., featuring cookies, hot cocoa, a discussion about German artists and coloring sheets that coincide with the discussion, the release said.

The classes are for parents and children age 2 and up. Coloring tools like crayons and markers will be provided, the release said.

The book includes work from Malu Castro, Karlen Bland and Zara Dinid. It features landscapes, animals and culture from countries the artists visited, said Washington.

Coloring Books For Kidz will release additional books coinciding with the seasons, Washington said.

Tickets to each class are $10.
