LAKEVIEW — U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), whose district encompasses a large swath of Chicago's North Side, is among the lawmakers boycotting Friday's inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
Instead, the congressman will participate in a day of service at Lakeview Pantry, according to a spokeswoman.
Quigley has been particularly vocal in his opposition to Trump's nomination of Steve Pruitt as head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The congressman has challenged Pruitt to a debate on climate change, but has not received a response, according to Quigley's staff.
In his official statement on the inauguration, Quigley said he "fully supports the peaceful transfer of power, but has chosen to spend the district work week with those who have elected him to represent them in Congress."
Pruitt built his entire career attacking the agency he now wants to lead—#ClimateChange denial & fossil fuel ties have no place in the @EPA.
