CHICAGO — An 18-year-old woman was charged with vehicular hijacking after jumping into a man's idling car and crashing it in Portage Park Thursday, police said.

Around 8:20 a.m. Thursday, a man left his car running in the 4800 block of West Warwick Avenue while he waited for it to get warm, according to police. A woman then jumped into the driver's seat and drove to the next block, where she hit five parked cars before crashing into a house's garden wall, police said.

Edita Mujkovic, of the 800 block of West Cornelia Avenue, was charged with vehicular hijacking, criminal damage to property, driving without a license and striking an unattended vehicle, according to police arrest records.

A neighbor said the car's owner chased the woman down, grabbed her by the arm and held her until police came and took her into custody.

"She was trying to hop my back fence, yelling something about how she 'had nothing to live for,'" the neighbor said.

Her bail has been set at $100,000, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
