MOUNT GREENWOOD — Kyle Baker’s “Silkscreen Gig Posters” exhibit is on display through Feb. 7 at Saint Xavier University's art gallery in Mount Greenwood.

The exhibit on the main campus at 3700 W. 103rd St. features hand-printed posters for some of the biggest bands and by some of the best-known poster artists. Baker will be available to discuss his work at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the gallery.

“I fell in love with screen printing the first time I tried it," Baker said. "It hit me like a ton of bricks — keep doing this, as much as you possibly can. It’s ineffable, not unlike the joy I get from playing ping pong."

Baker is a graphic and web designer who owns Baker Prints at 4045 N. Rockwell St. in North Center. The graduate of Bradley University is accredited with the American Poster Institute and is an officer with the Chicago Printers Guild.

His commercial art and design business has grown to include three full-time employees. He's worked for musicians such as the Avett Brothers and Steepwater Band along with comedian Louis CK and many more.

"I have an abiding love of music, and I see posters as the quintessential graphic design challenge. That their intersection as a viable art form exists in the silkscreen print shop is an amazing stroke of luck for me,” Baker said.

Baker's exhibit is the first installment of the spring semester. The university's art gallery is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; from noon-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.
