CHICAGO — Green and Red Line trains are facing major delays on Thursday morning, officials said.

Red Line trains were standing between the 95th/Dan Ryan Station and Sox-35th Station, the CTA tweeted about 5:30 a.m. Thursday. Just a short time later the CTA also said Green Line trains were halted at Halsted.

The CTA said track conditions were to blame for the delays. Chicago is under a freezing rain advisory until 9 a.m.

Trains began to move on the Red Line, but they were facing residual delays as of 6:05 a.m., the CTA said.

Green Line trains also started to move but then encountered a mechanical problem, the CTA said. That issue was fixed but there are residual delays as of 7 a.m.

Riders should plan for their trips to take extra time, the CTA said.
