WRIGLEYVILLE — Green Day will perform at Wrigley Field this summer, the band announced Monday.

While the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees did not announce specific dates for the gig, it will be the band's first show at Wrigley Field. Catfish and the Bottlemen will also perform, the Cubs said.

Green Day, known for hits like "American Idiot" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends," will kick off a stadium tour Aug. 1 in Washington.

Tickets for confirmed dates will go on sale Friday. The band said dates and on-sale information for Wrigley Field and a show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., would be released in coming weeks.

Nearby, Green Day will play Noblesville, Ind., on Aug. 18 and Cincinnati on Aug. 20. First, the band will play a European tour, which begins Tuesday in Italy.

The punk rock band released its 12th studio album, "Revolution Radio," in October. The following month, Green Day made headlines while performing at the Americans Music Awards by chanting, "No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA."

Green Day has won five Grammy Awards and sports a career that spans three decades and 85 million records sold. In 2010, the band was placed in VH1's list of the 100 greatest artists. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015 in their first year of eligibility.

Along with Green Day, Wrigley Field summer concerts include Billy Joel (Aug. 11), Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (June 29), Dead & Company (June 30 and July 1) and James Taylor with Bonnie Raitt (July 17).

The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by an entity controlled by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the iconic team.
