CHINATOWN — In celebration of Chinese New Year, the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Chinese Lunar New Year Dinner next month.

Neighborhood folks are invited to ring in the Year of the Rooster at the chamber dinner from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 9 at Phoenix Restaurant, 2131 S. Archer Ave.

Each Chinese New Year is represented by one of 12 animals that appear in the Chinese zodiac. The Year of the Rooster is the 10th animal in the cycle. People born in the Year of the Rooster are said to be kind-hearted, hard-working, courageous and, at times, arrogant and self-aggrandizing.

Rooster years are believed by some to be one of the most unlucky years in the Chinese calendar.

The Chinese New Year dinner at Phoenix includes a traditional lion dance and red envelope ceremony. Each guest gets a multi-course meal featuring festive New Year dishes including braised ham hock, prawns, steamed sea bass and stir fried lobster with ginger and green onion.

Tickets are $75 per person. Buy them here, or visit the chamber office, 2169 S. China Place.

Validated parking will be available at the registration desk: $2 for five hours in the Chinatown Square parking Lot.
