THE LOOP — A Loop woman says her Porsche was stolen Monday out of a private garage in a luxury condo tower overlooking Millennium Park.

Mairead Resch and her husband had just finished an afternoon at the Museum of Science and Industry when they parked their 2008 Porsche Cayenne in the garage of their home, the Legacy at Millennium Park, 60 E. Monroe St.

The car was gone by the time they came back down from their high-rise home Tuesday, and Resch thinks the theft is the latest in a troubling trend at the ritzy tower.

Building management reported a break-in two weeks ago that left a dry cleaner shortchanged and a resident's car was vandalized in the garage, Resch said. The garage, open to Legacy residents only, requires an electronic key for admission and doesn't have pedestrian access, leading Resch to believe the building's security has been compromised.

"This obviously isn't a one-off incident," she said. "I absolutely feel less safe."

The Legacy, which opened in 2009, has condos ranging from $650,000 to nearly $6 million for a full-floor penthouse near the top of the 73-story tower. Resch parks on the 11th floor.

Daniel Harvey, property supervisor for the tower, said in an email that the building is "working diligently" with police to "resolve the situation." The tower has numerous security measures including 24-hour doormen, surveillance cameras and other things, but is working to ensure the building is safe.

"We are currently conducting a thorough review of the incident to ensure the absolute highest level of security in the building," Harvey said.

Resch retrieved surveillance footage of the Porsche theft Monday night, but was met with what she characterized as a lukewarm response when she relayed the evidence to police. Now, she and her husband are scouring Craiglist and other sites to see if they can find their stolen car online.

Police "did not come out. They gave us a report number over the phone," Resch said. "They said if we had security footage we would be assigned a detective. I'm pretty disappointed about the police response."

Police said Wednesday that detectives are investigating the theft.

Resch has lived in the tower for more than six years, and her stolen car is the first she's heard of in the building. She and her husband, who share a 2-year-old child, have been following recent headlines about rising crime Downtown and are looking for homes in the suburbs now.

"There's a huge crime and security issue in the Loop, I notice it very much," Resch said. "I've never felt that way before ever. Ever."
