COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Prosecutors have filed charges in the Back of the Yards double homicide that killed Brian Fields, a man who made headlines last year for surviving a shooting broadcast live on Facebook.

Accused gunman Lorenzo Parish, 19, was denied bail Thursday.

According to prosecutors, three people were sitting in a Dodge Challenger at a gas station in the 1000 block of West Garfield Boulevard about 10:20 p.m. Oct. 28: Fields, Chiquita Ford and a 25-year-old woman.

Parish walked up to the car, pulled a handgun and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle, Assistant State's Attorney Jamie Santini said during a bond hearing Thursday.

There were at least five other patrons in the gas-station parking lot at the time, prosecutors said.

Fields, 30, was fatally shot in his chest. Ford, 30, was fatally hit in the side of her body, police said. The 25-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to her leg, but survived.

The shooting was captured on surveillance footage, Santini said, and two witnesses were able to identify Parish as the shooter.

Parish was arrested on a warrant this week in Fort Worth, Texas, and charged with first-degree murder, court records show.

According to prosecutors, Parish, of the 11500 block of South La Salle Street, has prior convictions for battery, retail theft and resisting a police officer. As a juvenile, he was convicted of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Fields had previously been injured in a West Englewood shooting on March 31 as he was recording a Facebook Live video. In the video, Fields is talking to the camera while standing on a street corner in the 5500 block of South Hoyne Avenue when another man opens fire. (Warning: video is graphic)

Fields begins by saying that the corner store behind him reopened now that he's back in the area.

"I can't be out here without the store being open," he said.

Then a car pulls up and shots ring out, while the phone recording the video drops to the ground. The video then depicts a gunman standing over the man and repeatedly shooting.
