Brothers Simmieon, Simmie McGruder Shot Dead In Garfield Park

CHICAGO — Brothers Simmieon and Simmie McGruder were shot dead in Garfield Park on Tuesday, officials said.

At 11:13 p.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 3200 block of West Lexington Street and found the men in the street, police said.

One man, 23, was shot in his head and left arm, police said.

Simmieon McGruder, 23, of the 3300 block of West Lexington Street, was pronounced dead at 11:52 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A 25-year-old man was hit multiple times throughout his body and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Simmie McGruder, 25, of the 3600 block of West Douglas, was pronounced dead at 5:13 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

On Facebook, family and friends wrote about the brothers, saying they were "lost" and "hurt" by the deaths. Some shares stories about the McGruders, saying they were friendly and happy.

"You were a genuinely GOOD human being," one woman wrote about Simmie McGruder. "One of my favorite [people] I've ever met. If you didn't know Simmie, I'm sorry you never had the chance to meet him."

No one was in custody.
