SOUTH SHORE —  Six cops were injured during an incident in South Shore early Saturday, including a car crash involving two unmarked police cars responding to a call for back up, police said.

At 12:42 a.m., two officers were trying to place a person in custody in the 7400 block of South Kingston Avenue who had been involved in a traffic crash. During the arrest, the officers were injured. Two unmarked police vehicles were responding to assist the officers when they collided in the intersection, police said.

A total of six officers were injured in both incidents, and five officers were taken to area hospitals, all with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman, did not have further details about why the person who'd been involved in a traffic crash was being arrested.

The suspect was "tazed and placed into custody," according to police.
