LOGAN SQUARE/BUCKTOWN — Shakespeare District police confiscated 350 grams of pot — about three-quarters of a pound — and a small amount of cocaine during a routine traffic stop on Western Avenue Wednesday night, according to a tweet from the district's Twitter account.

The officers in the social media-savvy district tweeted a photo of the drugs with a hashtag of "followtherulesoftheroad."

A police source said that the drugs were found in a car traveling without headlights when it turned near the Armitage and Western avenues intersection, at the border of Bucktown and Logan Square.

Officers say they smelled cannabis after pulling the driver over and recovered a clear plastic bag containing several smaller bag. The driver was traveling southbound toward Fullerton.

Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman, said Robert A. Schaefer, 24, of the 1200 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, was driving a 2001 Mercedes SUV in the 2200 block of North Western Avenue with no headlights on, and was stopped by officers.

"During the traffic stop, officers learned that [Schaefer] was driving on a suspended license, without insurance, and was placed into custody. Further investigation by the officers resulted in the recovery of about 350 grams of suspect cannabis and numerous miscellaneous narcotics, including suspect cocaine and suspect MDMA [also called "molly" or esctasy]," Amezaga said.

Schaefer was charged with 10 felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, one felony count of manufacturing/delivery of cannabis, one misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license and two traffic citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and headlights required - sunset to sunup.

Schaefer is expected to appear in bond court on Thursday.
