CHICAGO — There were more than 3,400 shootings in Chicago this year, an increase of 47 percent from the year before.

While shootings spiked citywide, they were largely concentrated in just a few neighborhoods on the West and South sides.

The map below shows how many shootings occurred on each block, based on data compiled by DNAinfo from the Chicago Police Department and Illinois State Police. The larger the circle, the more shootings on the block.

About 2,700 Chicago blocks — just a fraction of the number in the city — registered a shooting in 2016. About 500 blocks had more than one shooting.
