CHICAGO — An 18-year-old man was shot dead in Gage Park early Sunday, police said.

At 1:33 a.m., the man was driving northbound in the 5300 block of South Francisco Avenue when shots were fired, police said.

He was hit in his neck and back and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

He was later identified as Fabian Ortega, of the 3500 block of West 83rd Place, by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Ortega is a documented gang member, a police source said.

No one was in custody.
