UPTOWN — La Ciudad Mexican Cafe and Grill will continue its tradition of feeding the less fortunate with a Christmas Eve brunch this year.

For the third year, the restaurant at 4515 N. Sheridan Road will offer a free meal to the homeless from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, said owner Hugo De La Rosa.

"It's so rewarding seeing the guys leave with a smile on their face. It's the best Christmas gift," De La Rosa said. "We believe in making business to help people who need it... It's something everyone should do."

The event has fed between 100 and 150 people in the past and is designed to let the less fortunate "know the community still supports them ... and make [the less fortunate] feel like they have a family," he said.

While staff will be on hand to cook the meal, community members can volunteer to help out.

"They might see them in the neighborhood and they may feel different" than before, De La Rosa said.

The meal will include coffee, orange juice, ham, sausage, brown rice, a dessert and pork chops in orange sauce, he said adding, attendees will also be able to take food away from the event.

The restaurant is also accepting monetary donations, blankets, socks, toiletries, hats and gloves for the less fortunate, according to a news release.

Monetary donations can also be made online here.
