COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Morgan Park man is accused of raping his girlfriend after she received a phone call from a male friend.

According to prosecutors, Muhammad Brown and his girlfriend, both 21, were at Brown's home in the 10900 block of South Church Street on Dec. 4 when the woman received a call from a pal.

Brown, who'd been drinking, became enraged and insisted the woman was "disrespecting him," Assistant State's Attorney Bryan Grissman said during a bond hearing Wednesday.

At that point, Brown threw the woman's phone across the room and picked her up by her neck, choking her, prosecutors said. The woman struggled to get away — kicking and scratching Brown as she begged him to stop, according to Grissman.

Brown slammed the woman to the floor and proceeded to rape her, prosecutors said. He then went to take a nap, according to authorities.

A short while later, the woman woke Brown and asked for a ride back to her Chatham home, Grissman said.

Brown obliged but would later point a gun at the woman when she received another call from a friend in the car, prosecutors said. According to Grissman, Brown hung up the call and told his girlfriend "he was not playing with her."

The woman reported the attack to the Chicago Police Department. A rape kit was collected, prosecutors said, and authorities noticed bruises on the woman's face, arm, neck and legs.

Brown is charged with aggravated domestic battery and criminal sexual assault.

Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. on Wednesday set bail at $50,000.
