CHICAGO — A "distraught person" brought first responders to the Red Line station at Chicago, and caused the temporary reroute of Red Line trains Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.

First responders arrived at the Red Line station and found a 22-year-old man who appeared to be distraught, said Fire Chief Juan Hernandez, a Chicago Fire spokesman. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition, he said.

Preliminary information stated that the man was hit by a train, but that was later corrected by officials. Though he was not struck by the train, the man did sustain injuries and may have tried to hurt himself, according to a source.

Red Line trains were rerouted to the elevated tracks between the Cermak and Fullerton stops, and normal service resumed around 1 p.m., a CTA spokesman said.
