Police To Crack Down Drunken Drivers On The South Side Friday

MIDWAY — Police will be on the lookout for drunken drivers on the South Side this weekend.

Officers will conduct a DUI strike force patrol in the Chicago Lawn District from 7 p.m. Friday-3 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Police will saturate the district to find drivers who are drunk, speeding or not wearing their seat belts.

The Chicago Lawn District serves a number of South Side neighborhoods, including Clearing, Garfield Ridge, Archer Heights and West Lawn.

A DUI strike force in the Grand Central Police District on Sept. 9-10 led to 156 charges, including one drunken driving charge, 46 unsafe vehicle violations, 21 insurance violations, 20 safety belt violations and 14 driver's license violations. Three vehicles were towed.
