Chatham Shooting Kills Derrick Swanigan, 34, After Fight, Officials Say

CHICAGO — A shooting in Chatham killed Derrick Swanigan, 34, on Friday night, officials said.

At 10:01 p.m., the man was in a home in the 8000 block of South Evans Avenue when he got into a fight with someone he knew and the person shot him, police said.

The man was hit in his chest and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Swanigan, of the same block where he was killed, was pronounced dead at 10:58 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Someone was in custody in the shooting, police said.
