CHICAGO — Winter is still a great time to get out and enjoy local park facilities, and tomorrow is your chance to register for seasonal classes to enjoy during chillier months.

In-person registration for winter classes and programs will be held Saturday and Monday at park field houses, the Chicago Park District said. There are more than 6,000 different programs this season for kids, adults and seniors, said the park district.

Online registration for classes began Dec. 5, but in-person registration will begin Saturday at most park field houses. Registration will continue at all park field houses Monday.

"At the Chicago Park District we pride ourselves on offering the best deal in town," said Park District Superintendent Michael Kelly. "With offerings for everyone — from toddlers to seniors — there is no reason for inactivity this winter."

Classes run the gamut, from sports and recreation to crafts and instrument lessons. Some of the more unique classes include: cartooning (at Edison Park), sign language (Horner Park), trash to treasure (multiple parks) and Mexican Folklore (Gage Park).

One of the more popular classes is the Winter Break Camp, which keeps kids busy during their time off.

Children will not be turned away due to inability to pay, and financial assistance is available, the district said.

Most classes start Jan. 9 and run through the week of March 20.

The Chicago Park District continues to see record registration for its classes. This year's fall session grew by 16 percent over 2015 to over 97,000 participants, the district said.
