COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Prosecutors have charged a man with murdering Abimbola "Bim" Sheleru outside a West Ridge banquet hall late last month.

Accused getaway driver Nicholas Bradbury and Sheleru "have no known relationship," Assistant State's Attorney Bryan Grissman said during a bond hearing Wednesday.

Sheleru, 28, was at a party at Bombay Hall, 2448 W. Devon Ave., on Nov. 20, prosecutors said. About 4:30 a.m., he and a witness walked through a backdoor towards a rear parking lot.

Around the same time, a dark-colored vehicle pulled into the lot, Grissman said. The witness recognized Bradbury as the driver.

Bradbury stopped his car near Sheleru, who was trying to enter his own vehicle, prosecutors said. At that point, an accomplice stepped out of Bradbury's car, ran toward Sheleru and shot the man multiple times, Grissman said.

Bradbury and the accomplice fled, according to authorities, and police later found eight shell casings on the scene.

Sheleru was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital later that morning.

According to relatives, Sheleru was a father of two and grew up on the North Side with five siblings. His family canceled Thanksgiving this year, saying it "wouldn't feel right" without Sheleru.

Bradbury, 29, is charged with first-degree murder. The accomplice has not yet been charged.

Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. on Wednesday denied Bradbury bail.
