NOBLE SQUARE —   About 35 caroling students, teachers and parents from Rowe Elementary School and Noble Street College Prep —  charter schools that are part of the Northwestern Settlement campus — brought holiday cheer to evening commuters at the Polish Triangle Wednesday.

Watch the group sing "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Feliz Navidad":

Now in its 21st year, the caroling in the neighborhood event was enhanced by adults dressed like Joseph and Mary, who were joined by two donkeys and a llama courtesy of Dekalb's Friendly Farms.

The caroling was one of three holiday events planned for December at Northwestern Settlement, which has been a part of the West Town community for 125 years.

On Dec. 17, Northwestern Settlement staff and volunteers are planning to pack 600 food baskets for West Town neighbors in need. That event will begin at 9 a.m. at Northwestern Settlement, 1400 W. Augusta Blvd.

On Wednesday, Dec. 21, Northwestern Settlement will host a Holiday Toy Room from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., also at 1400 W. Augusta Blvd.

The Toy Room opens each December for a day just before Christmas so families who frequent the Settlement's food pantry and Family Services program may shop for gifts for their children or grandchildren.

Most often these gifts will be the only ones the family has to exchange at Christmas, the nonprofit says.
