RIVER NORTH — Quite on theme, this "Star Wars" preview party is.

Headquarters Beercade, the River North arcade bar that hangs an Admiral Ackbar quote from its ceiling, is hosting an elaborate preview party for the "Rogue One" film debuting next week.

The party Dec. 14 not only includes a costume contest and "Star Wars"-themed cocktails, but also professional lightsaber fights and a variety of video games (including a "Pod Racer" tournament) tied to the legendary science fiction franchise.

The festivities begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at Headquarters, 213 W. Institute Place. A spokeswoman did not immediately have more details about the contest prizes or one-night-only cocktails.

"Rogue One," which debuts across theaters Dec. 16, depicts the events between Episodes III and IV of the "Star Wars" franchise. Felicity Jones stars as one of the unlikely heroes who steals the plans to the Death Star, a new weapon of mass destruction constructed by the galaxy's evil Empire.

Headquarters isn't the first Chicago bar to latch on to renewed "Star Wars" enthusiasm. The Whistler in Logan Square last year hosted a pop-up "Cantina" inspired by "Episode IV: A New Hope."
