CHICAGO — A 45-year-old man was shot dead in Chatham late Sunday, according to police.

Around 11:45 p.m., the man was found unresponsive inside a house in the 8100 block of South Ellis Avenue, police said.

He had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man has been identified as Darren Smith, who lived in the same block where he was killed Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Police initially said the man was 42 years old.

No other information is known and no arrests have been made, police said.
